CAINTA, RIZAL—The Parish of Our Lady of Light officially announces today, February 11, the date for the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Light. The Patroness of Cainta will be crowned on December 1, 2018, 9:00 in the morning.

In a Holy Mass at 8:00 AM, presided by the Parochial Vicar, Rev. Fr. Marvin Borda, the Parish confirms the date of Canonical Coronation after receiving the Papal Bull a month ago.

OLLP opts to celebrate the coronation of the Lady on a later date to give every committee an ample time in preparing everything for the festivity. The Parish also chooses its date because it is the proper feast of Mary, Our Lady of Light, in Cainta.Tentatively, the Parish invited the Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia to be the crowning prelate, Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle as homilist and Most. Rev. Francisco M. De Leon as the presider of the Holy Mass.

The Parish has not yet announced the specific itinerary that will take place during the year of preparation, but it will focus first on the formation of the faithful to be prepared for the coronation.

Fr. Neil Vincent Tacbas, the former Parish Priest, Rector of the Minor Seminary, and Fr. Micheal Dupo of Congregation of Jesus and Mary were also present in the Mass. Fr. Nolly Buco wasn’t able to join the Mass because of fever. Rev. Galbert Albino from the Diocese of Sydney gave the homily.

In a quick interview, Fr. Marvin Borda, Parochial Vicar, said that before any physical refurbishments to be done inside the church building, the formation of the people must be prioritized. “In order to lead them (the faithful) to Mary, lead them to Christ, first they must recognize ‘who is this woman to be crowned?’” He added. That’s why a Common Formation is set on February 24, 2018 to catechize the faithful of Cainta regarding the devotion, history, preparations, and the coronation itself.

In her speech during the launching, Sylvia Amorsolo Lazo, daughter of Fernando Amorsolo—the National Artist who painted the recent and oldest image of Our Lady of Light in 1950, said that the Fernando Amorsolo Foundation which their family established, leap for joy for the declaration of the Canonical Coronation. She also thanked everybody who has been part of the cause for Canonical Coronation.

The Parish also establishes certain committees that will spearhead all dealings in preparations. Committees, namely, are: Secretariat, Fund-raising Liturgy and Ceremonies, Fiesta Committee, Catechism, Technical and Media, Food, Church Arrangements, and Safety and Security. The committee heads took their oath, also in the said Mass.

FUND RAISING PROJECT AND YEAR-LONG EXHIBIT

Coinciding with the announcement of the date of Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Light, the Parish also launches the Fund-Raising Project and opens the Year-Long Exhibit.

The Fund-raising project named “Kaisa Ako sa Bayang Nag-aalay kay Maria” is a signature campaign which aims to finance the making of the Virgin’s crown for coronation. The project is headed by the Parish Finance Council.

The appeal is to donate certain amounts from PhP 20.00 to PhP 500.00 and fill up the form with signatures adjacent to the amounts desired.

In order to educate the faithful about the history and catechism on the image of Our Lady of Light, the Parish opens a Year-long Exhibit, situated in a chapel inside the Parish Church.

The exhibit is prepared and erected by the Secretariat together with Fr. Marvin Borda and Fr. Nolly Buco. It is covered with creatives, and memorabilias.

The Secretariat provided a relevant space for the church’s photos to celebrate its 50th Anniversary from its re-dedication on February 25, 1968 after being bombed during the Filipino-American War. The exhibit features photos of the church’s ruins in 1900s, its developments since 1968 until 2000s and its recent structure with retablo. The exhibit will be in display until the end of the year.

The Vatican Congregation on Divine Culture and the Discipline of Sacraments approved the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Light on December 6, 2017 after Bishop Francisco de Leon sent a letter of endorsement last October 5, 2017 to grant the petition of Cainta for Canonical Coronation.
